In English, We have quotation, time flies. Yes it is true for us. This homestay, brata 1 homestay was started in 1980s with only 1 room for our guest and it develops to have more rooms available to our customers. As same as our increase rooms, we have a new member in our lovely family. In the first photo, we took this photo on 31st of December 2011 a few hour before the year changes to be 2012. I took with my little family, me, my wife and our baby boy. I am very happy to celebrate the new year eve with our new family member, yes our 5 months baby boy. We hope in the 2012 is better than 2011 and we will have our adventures, experiences and moments to pass together, we have so much to plan, schedule and to do together in 2012, we are very enthusiasm for 2012, may God with us always.

Firstly, It was started on Monday, 6th of December 2010 among one of the biggest Hindu holiday, Galungan and Kuningan, I know it was in 2010 but as on December, everything already set to celebrate 2011, the year that we will say good bye just a few second later. On that day was my wedding ceremony. Yes, when my girlfriend said Yes afterwards I didn't wash my time to wait our Wedding Ceremony. The Wedding Ceremony was little bit quickly but everything was under control, perfect and everyone happy, I was very enthusiasm to make my new, my own and my happy family.

Secondly, My first son born on 23rd of June 2011 with his full name is Gede Putra Junartha Brata. I believe every name have a meaning and from the meaning, its has blessing for the person itself. I want my first son is being a strong, smart and wise man also be the great leader for "Brata Family". I hope God will listen and give his blessing to Him.

Thirdly was 42 days after he was born ceremony. In Balinese Hindu, this is one of the most important ceremony to welcome the baby. The ceremony was leading by my grand father from my mother, he is one of in Balinese we call pemangku. Pemangku like a little priest who has responsibility to be guard of temple in his village.
Finally, if you come to Bali as you wish to see our unique religion and rich culture heritages that stay in a homestay is the highness recommend because you can see the real life of Balinese, see the culture and religion in very close and and feel the truly Balinese Hospitality. On Sunday, 18th of December 2011, there was Fun Bike in Padang Tegal village, which is proudly presented by Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary Ubud. There were a lot of presents in this events but we mostly were not looking for the presents at that time we also look for fun, relax and hangout time with our friends, colleagues and also our lovely family.

For that day, in our accommodation stayed our loyal tourist from Jakarta, one of really limited of our domestic tourist, his named is Teguh, a young successfully business man who works for coal industry factory. At that time he came to Bali because he had a meeting with his factory for end year report and on Sunday, the meeting was break and he had time to go to Ubud to join us for this Fun Bike event, He said although I stayed in very good and famous hotel in one of tourist destination in southern of Bali but he stressed that stayed with us was all he needed, joined the fun bike, had a lot of time to talk, treat us Bu Oka sucling pig, or even sit in our grass floor in front of our accommodation while talking and seing the traffics. He said money doesn't matter if he can have the Ubud hospitality enjoy.

We had a fun bike, relax for a while before go to have work on Monday, although we didn't get the main prize a new suzuki karimun estilo but we were really happy to join this Sacred Monkey Forest Sactuary Ubud Fun Bike, thank you for the committees for all their hard works, then after this he treated us (hope all our guests like him (just kidding)) to have sucling pig of Bu Oka one of the most famous sucling pig in Bali, afterwards we ate while had a lot of conversation and finally he must back to have some meeting again but he had mention that Mr Teguh will back on March 2012.

Fun Bike was so fun and we had very nice guest but we believe mostly of our guests are nice one and right now we prepare for new year eve and we hope we have a nice memory when farewell 2011 and welcome 2012 with our guests who at that time stay in our accommodation, Brata 1 Homestay.

On 18th of December 2011 as the second even, Sacret Monkey Forest Sanctuary Ubud is proudly present the Fun and Cross Country Bike 2011. Of course you can't have fun bike and cross culture bike with the monkeies but as your information, monkey forest can held this evwnt because of the monkeies, a lot of people from overseas come to see the monkey and we have the money from its ticket. There are 2 type of championships, first is Fun Bike and the other one is Cross Country Bike. The ticket is not so expensive only Rp. 25.000 and you will get 3 ticket including snack (small food). It will be started at 7 AM, so don't be late and 1 new Suzuki Karimun Estilo, 2 Honda Scoopy, 5 mountain bicycle, 5 LCD TV, 10 Mobile phone etc are the presents for this event. Don't worry there are still numerous numbers of competition like cooking, painting, statue, photography, children painting and Balinese dance competations. The history of brata 1 homestay started when the booming of tourists came first time in Ubud in the earlier of 1980s. Our home is a kind of Balinese building with a numerous of space and because of that, our grand parents decided to rent started with only 1 room at that time just for a little extra money and its homestay exists until the presents day with more rooms. When you and your family choose to stay here, you will quicly to find the atmosphere of warm balinese hospitality with its daily activities and the number of ceremonies.

A few day ago, when we held a big 3 moths balinese ceremony for the new born baby in our family, it was very anthusiasm moment for our big family and also our guests who stayed in our place at the time. They can see our tight brotherhood with the number of activities. The ceremony preparation started 3 days before the H day in the 5th of October 2011 and for preparing we must wake very early one at 4.30 AM in the morning, When the peek of the ceremony a lot of our far faily and also neighbours and villagers came and saw our new baby boy. This ceremony was exactly for blessing and praying for the baby's future and also to say thanks to the suprime God. In the afternoon was the lunch time with a lot of Balinese dishes and the special and a must is a sucling pig, roasted pork and for this special occasion we cooked 7 roasted pork to consume for our invitation guests and also for the tourists who stayed in our accommodation in that time. In Balinese philosophy, this ceremony is one of the important and big ceremony, so it was why we celebrated with a lot of happiness and foods.

Getting Around

Royal Cremation Ceremony 2nd of November 2010 at Peliatan

Again Royal Cremation Ceremony will be held in Peliatan village, eastern side of Ubud and to go there you only need 10 minutes by walk from Ubud. The Cremation Ceremony in Balinese is called Plebon and it will be held 2nd of November 2010.

Before Bali island consists of a lot of Kingdoms, the Kingdoms was constitutional with Federal Monarchy, which the head of Federal Monarchy was King of Klungkung.

In Peliatan, there is Kingdom that sub Kingdom of Gianyar Kingdom (Gianyar is subkingdom of Klungkung) and we all know that after 1945, Indonesia had our independend and our constitutional is Republic although, we still have King but we are Republic. Like in Peliatan, when Jing of Peliatan died so there is a big procession to the lastest honour for him. Come to Peliatan Village on Tuesday 2nd of November 2010 and you will see one awesome moment, when procession is started. Guests will see people make team workto carry tower that bring the King dead body to cementery. The tower high is more than 20 metres so the tower is very heavy and to carry it, at lease need much people. For carry this tower, committee of Plebon use step by step procedural/estaffette, first group takes about 20 metres and change to second group continue until the tower arrive in cementry and for this procession it need more than 1000 people because there is three things to carry here, first is coffin cow (in Balinese called Lembu), second is dragon (Naga Banda) and the last is tower (in Balinese Bade).

Cremation Ceremony on 3 October 2010 in Padang Tegal Kelod, Ubud.

Cremation ceremony is one of the biggest, the sacredest and the most complicate also the most popular ceremony in Hindu Bali. In Bali, there is much ceremony, so it is why Bali, sometime it is said, everyday without ceremony. Cremation ceremony is dedicated for someone who already passed away and his family want to honour him, same in this cremation ceremony, we want to honour our lovely grand father. Guests of Brata 1 Homestay must be knowing him with his hospitality and a lot of Brata 1 Ubud guests said he was a wise man with big heart .Our Grand Father cremation ceremony was helded in Padang Tegal kelod in Padang Tegal Village on 3rd of October 2010.

The cremation procession is started since a month ago, on the middle of September 2010 and finished on 6th of October 2010 after 3 days of its H day and the ceremony name's is 'nelunan' (3rd days).

Procession of ceremony was started with our Balinese traditional custums that we made committee first. After the committee was made then we requested to our local community (called Banjar in Balinese) that our family had a plan to make cremation ceremony to our grand father. After the banjar permited after words our family looked good day in Balinese celender to start working ( in Balinese is called nuasen karya). Next the committee was started to make tower to carry death body (in Balinese is called Bade) and coffin for burning and it used bull symbol (called lembu), lembu means bull in English.

Next procession is preparing for offering and for this procession we woke up in very early morning 4 AM to prepare food for offering, for ou priest and for committee. it takes more than 3 days. Another important procession was one day before H day, which was in that time our family invited our friends and colleagues to come in our home and as witness to our ceremony. In night we must not sleep until tomorow and what made this day is special because in midnight, the inheritor person must take holy water (calle dtirta penembak) alone to sacred place and after he got it, he must suddenly send to Priest home to process and prepare for thr H day tomorow.

In the H day, there is very busy time, the day was started with Made offering and prepares for everything for ceremony. Next in noon, the

ceremony was started with carry Lembu and Bade to cementery and after death body take in Lembu, then we burned it. After the death body finished to burn only residue bond and ash. we offered it and then went to beach to spread i ( in Balinese called nganyut).

Last in 3rd days procession (ngetelunin), we made foods and beverages for all the committees, like lawar, comoh, jugut ares, sate, siap betutu etc to celebrate our success work because the cremation success without obstacle and dont forget we send the foods to Priest home and after then in afternoon we went to Priest home again (the home called Griya) to said thank you to priest and his families and to who already helped cremation ceremony also. Batur temple is a place for pray to supreme God as his fungtion as Visnu with his wife Goddess Sri as a goddess of prosperous. In Batur temple right now, there is a ceremony, it is not so big as before but it was still very good time to come, pray and do somethings as our self dedication for God.

It seems like one of the only Arts Institute in Bali, Indonesian Institute of the Arts, in photo above, looks students of this institute dance to their self dedication for The Suprime God, because in Bali there are many ways to pray to God and dance when the ceremony is one of that ways. When the students dance although in that time weather was little bit rainy, fog and cold but because of their spirit to dance was so high, they ignored it and they still dance.

The dance name is "Rejang", its dance one of important dance for using in ceremony and rejang dance is one of sacred dance in Bali too. Without this dance, ceremony is not complete one. On 24th March 2010 in Brata 1 homestay held a ceremony, ceremony in our family temple. This ceremony was very interesting because in this time is a very good time during Balinese celender, as should you know for ceremony, Balinese is using Balinese System Celender, which is using lunar system and 1 month is 35 days.

In this special day, most of our family was going home to pray, request for The Suprime God to save us and other thing, this ceremony is for purifiying our place (Brata 1 Homestay) to clean in spiritual side besides in real world.
In that time, situation was very happy and lot of lough because all our family came home so we can share our experience and talking much each other. This was not just a ceremony but the time to meet each other in our home (Brata 1 Homestay). A guest of us, her name Sandra from Switzerland and other guests looked very enjoy about this atmosphere, she said when I was 6 years my parents came to Ubud with me and after 16 years I am back again to Ubud. This atmosphere make she has something different in Ubud, how people interect with each other, how their have a strong relationship between each family and how they still pray with God, although they are already success. to see, people pray together with their Big and Happy family is very awesome and memorable time. After the water is giving mantra from Priest, everyone will take the Holy water to their home for spread it to request for the Suprime God that their home has his blessing for puring and cleaning their home from something bad. Next Balinese will prepare for "Pengerupukan" day. Pengerupukan is one day before Nyepi. In that time, there is a ceremony for offering the invisible creature especially bad spirit to make they do not disturb us. The ceremony is usually take place in cross road in every village because crossroad is center of direction. Afterwords, there is a ceremony who is people waiting for. Ogoh-ogoh (Giant doll) Carnival that you can see we carry a big giant doll as symbol of bad thing. Before it procession there is a ceremony to request the bad spirit who stay in their village to come on giant doll ceremony then we carry it around our village after then, we allow for bad spirit to out from giant doll/ogoh-ogoh because we will burn the giant doll as the symbol Balinese fight with bad spirit. It is counting minus 28 year in formal year, e.i now is 2010 minus 28 means 1932. Year, It was celebrate to Nyepi holiday 1932. Nyepi, some people would say new saka year, is a day to people celebrate new year at home only. Saraswati day is one of Hindu biggest holiday. It is a big holiday and very precious holiday because it is only once a year. Saraswati holiday is the time to pray for the suprime God as his power as the God of knowledge and the symbol is as Saraswati Goddess. Another things make this Holiday very big and precious are this the time for student and the people who are still in study process to pray for requesting that they are success during their study and pass exam with good grade. Brata 1 homestay is not just a homestay only, our full name is brata 1 homestay and fine art gallery and if this blog have brata 1 homestay and fine art gallery' name, it is too long so it is way, in this blog just written brata 1 homestay only too easier to remember and other thing, my father as painter is not like to promote his skill. He is an low profile artist. Yeah the printer here is my father. My father is a painter, start learned in maestro when he was child and in present he is sucess became a famous painter and he has not a ordinary painter, because he become a lecturer of fine art so he teachs a lot of student to became a painter. One of his student is Antonia Blanko san, Mario Blanko. Righ now My father, em I start with my father name, his name is Drs. I Made Subrata, M.Si, right now he is very busy with his job be vice leader for students affairs, in one and the only Art Institute in Bali or in Indonesian its says 'ISI Denpasar', abbreviation of 'Institute Seni Indonesia Denpasar'.

Brata 1 homestay is just a place that have a big space because its home is a main home from old generation to this generation in in Ubud, yeah it is one of Balinese Traditional Home. A place with many buildings and rooms made my grandfather decided to make and create brata 1 homestay. If I am not wrong, its was established, when I was child, let said in 1990 and when it started I have been still remembering in this time, with only one room, the room number 2. Now we grow up until have 6 rooms. It is the maximum room because if we build another rooms it will change our Balinese Design and traditional calculation, in Balinese it says 'sikut 200'. This picture is Yande and Ketut. Yande is in right position, for brata 1 homestay guests who are already come 2 or even more time, they would not suprise with yande because he have been working in brata 1 homestay almost 15 years. He is knowing about all of our time, start when brata 1 homestay grow or in that period of just seldom tourist came to Bali because of travel warning as the effect of Bomb Bali 1 and 2. and left position is our new coming staf from west Bali, already work 1.5 year of course he is a good guy too, same like Yande. Hopely no bomb again blast in the last paradise island (Bali) and other hope is Yande will marry soo with his lovely girl. Thank you for Yande for his dedication, loyality and his smile also lough, because he is happy young man. The last but not the least thank you for our guests for staying, their stories, dedication and promotion ( because much our guests promote Brata 1 Homestay too) and for all people that support and help us, we can't write one by one because it is too much. If you come to Ubud remember Ubud is different with other. Ubud is an international traditional village with many interesting aspects among its beauty although Ubud is chosen as the best city in Asia and have the reader of Conde Nast Traveler 2009 Readers 'Choice Award' but Ubud is still a village and the traditional one, so remember that Ubud is a place with full of religious, tradition, culture and arts and so it is way on place like Ubud. Here some trip to make you understand and enjoy during your trip to Ubud:

Remember my words, if you come to Bali especially Ubud dont see it with your eyes only, see it with your heart so you can find the spirit of Ubud (Bali).
Ubud is from the Balinese word "Ubad". when it translates to English its means "medicine". Yeah Ubud is medicine. Medicine for us, who visit Ubud, we really hope that you have our spirit and spiritual atmosphere so you will have better smile, happier and better love, for yourself, friends and also your big family.
Please do your polite and honest attitude here in Ubud, with Balinese, other tourists and our natural environment. There was a case when a drunker tourist crashed a monkey in monkey forest sacred sanctuary although he did it when dawn so no one saw this accident but tomorrow night after that he had nightmare that spirit of the monkey came and want to his responsibility, soon after that the tourist came again to monkey forest and asked apologize there and after then he has not nightmare anymore.
Ubud can be your headquarter during your trip to Bali and even Indonesia because Ubud is exactly in the middle of both area, for example you have a plan to1 month holiday in Bali then firstly you can come to Ubud, stay 3 days, then from Ubud you can visit other places like Kuta, Sanur, Jimbaran Seminyak then back again to Ubud for 2 days while take a rest. After then you can continue your trip to east coast suck as Candi dasa, Amed or even Lombok. Finally you can stay in Ubud at the end while buy Balinese handicraft in our traditional stores or Ubud traditional market.
If you find troubles and problems during your trip to Ubud, please feel free to ask Ubud tourist board in Ubud main crossroad, opposite Ubud traditional market or ask Balinese traditional police called 'Pecalang', who dresses Balinese Traditional Uniform and its usually black and white.

Today (13rd february 2010 ) just one day before valentine day, an artist from England, she was born in Briston but in present she is living in Liverpool, the city of one the best music group, The Beattle, yeah an artist from Liverpool England stayed in Brata 1 homestay, what a good day and her name is Helen Seymour. Helen is a music teacher in secondary school in Liverpool and her specially is Spanish music and that why she was playing her original Spain guiter very awesome. Em she is very mastering in her world (spanish music) with how she managed her finger when she made a little performed here. Wish that she stay little bit longer so we can request her to play in Valentine day the best of love song. She said that next holiday she want to back again. See you in that time Helen. hansano experience in brata 1 homestay (part 2)

well the story abaout hansano experience in brata 1 homestay will coutinue. Hansano is staying in that homestay quite long. he is making brata 1 homestay is like his headquater that he stayed than visit another places, like lovina in north part of Bali, stay there 1 week tahn back to brata 1 homestay anymore than stayed about 1 month while practice his yoga. a few month ago his daughter was coming. her name is Disa, first I thought Lisa, it is like Mona Lisa because her smile is nice same as Mona Lisa smile. Others best Sweden made in, besides car maker Volvo and mobile product Ericson. One made I was interesting with Hansano, it was his success to teach Disa be a good daugther especially about diciplin of time. her always went to bed early, much earlier than me, nowsday my time go to sleep is about 1 am or more in the daybreak, Oh my gosh, it is just because my dedicate to my blog and I believe all visitors know for who my blog is dedicated. if you do not know please read again in staff's smile in right column, thank you. Okay I countinue again my story. In that time I forgot to took her photos with her lovely and the best father, hopely Disa there read it and give a comment about her experience when stayed in Ubud. In photo above is Hansano and his new friend, her name is Pia. Pia is a writer too, hopely her can give a trick and trip how to write a writing much much better.

I already tell a Ubud secret to Hansano. it was said that Ubud name is from Balinese name "Ubad". Ubad, if it is traslated to English it means medicine, So it is way Ubud has different atmospher, atmospher of spiritual, culture, spirit and of course love.
